CFP: CEC'05 Special Session on EC for Design

The 2005 IEEE Congress on Evolutionary Computation (CEC 2005) will be in
Edinburgh, Scotland, Sep 2nd-5th. IEEE CEC is a premier international
annual congress for publication and presentation of the highest quality
research and applications papers in evolutionary computation (genetic
algorithms, genetic programming, evolutionary programming, evolution
strategies, and so forth) and related areas in computational intelligence.

Special Session Description:
----------------------------
The design of engineering artifacts (eg. aerofoils, jet nozzles) was one
of the early motivating problems for pioneers of evolutionary algorithms.
With ever-increasing computational power, we are now able to combine
complex simulations with high-performance evolutionary algorithms
to tackle problems that used to be impractical. As we take on more
and more difficult problems, the limitations of existing methods are
revealed, driving further refinement and innovation (eg. co-evolution,
distributed algorithms).
In this special session, we seek papers on applications of EC to novel,
challenging design problems, potential and existing, as well as on new
developments in evolutionary algorithms created to solve these problems.
Suitable problems include, but are not limited to: industrial design,
engineering design, architectural design, design of plant, artistic
design, system design.
