Title: No Optimisation without Representation: Principled Design for Local
Search

Abstract:

Though local search optimisers are clearly effective, their design is
often rather ad hoc in practice. More specifically, though it is generally
agreed that incorporating domain knowledge is needed to produce effective
optimisers, how to achieve this is still an open question. This talk
outlines a semi-formal knowledge based approach for acquiring and
representing domain knowledge to local search optimisers.
