Representations for GEAs Workshop at GECCO

Call For Participation:

I want to take a moment to encourage anyone who will be attending GECCO
2002,
and is interested in representation issues, to attend the Workshop on
Representations for Genetic and Evolutionary Algorithms.

The wokshop will be held as part of GECCO 2002 in New York on
Tuesday, July 9 from 2:00pm until 5:30pm
in the "Fifth Avenue Suite".

The aim of the workshop is to discuss representation issues for GEAs and
to
sensitize researchers regarding the importance of proper representations
for
designing high-quality GEAs.
To reach this goal, I am proud to be able to announce that there are
three invited
speaker who are experienced in representation issues and who give an
overview
over current, hot, and interesting representation topics:

- Darrell Whitley: Gray Codes, Binary Representations and No Free Lunch
- Marc Ebner: Effects of Neutral Networks on the Evolability of a
Population
- Hillol Kargupta: Representation Construction in Gene Expression and
Classification

The invited talks are continued by poster presentations discussing
representation
issues. The poster format should give everybody enough time and
opportunity
to discuss ideas on a personal level directly with the authors and other
participants of the workshop:

- Annie S. Wu and Ivan Garibay: The Proportional Genetic Algorithm
- Dirk Thierens: Some issues in predictive measures for representation
and
  genetic operator design
- Ivan T. Tanev, Takashi Uozumi and Yoshiharu Morotome: Priority
Dispatching
Rules-based Genetic Representation For Hybrid Evolutionary Algorithm
For Flexible Job Shop Scheduling Problem
- Bryant A. Julstrom: Codings and Search Space Size in Genetic
Algorithms
for the Leaf-Constrained Minimum Spanning Tree Problem
- Michael L. Gargano, Ying He and William Edelson: Evolving Optimal
Reliability
Networks Subject to Budget Constraints Using Genetic Algorithms II

The remaining time of the workshop is used for a panel discussion.
If you want to discuss some questions, do not hesitate to contact me
(rothlauf@uni-bayreuth.de).
