                              GECCO-2001
                 One Conference: Many "Mini-Conferences":
     GECCO = GP + GA + ES + EP + EH + ER + DNA + CS + RWA + AAA + ACO + ...

#### GOOD NEWS! #### The 352 REGULAR PAPER SUBMISSIONS to GECCO were up
35% over last year, paving the way for a spectacular conference! With 24
tutorials, 15 workshops, over 100 poster presentations, three days of
parallel sessions presenting 170 high-quality papers (acceptance rate < 50%),
up-to-the-minute results in Late-Breaking Papers sessions, and two
outstanding keynoters, the conference promises to be the best ever in
evolutionary computation! You will see the latest in your favorite area,
and can also explore developments in other, related tracks.

Topics in the conference include genetic algorithms (GA); genetic programming
(GP); evolution strategies (ES); evolutionary programming (EP); evolvable
hardware (EH); evolutionary robotics (ER); real-world applications (RWA);
classifier systems (CS); DNA and molecular computing (DNA); artificial life,
adaptive behavior and agents (AAA); ant colony optimization (ACO);
evolutionary design of engineered structures; methodology, pedagogy, and
philosophy (MPP); and evolutionary scheduling and routing (SCH).

*** STILL NOT TOO LATE to submit a LATE-BREAKING PAPER ***

Late-Breaking Papers, presenting the very latest work in the field, are being
accepted in camera-ready form through May 28, 2001. These papers will be
included in a special Late-Breaking Papers volume to be distributed to all
GECCO-2001 registrants. See www.isgec.org/GECCO-2001 for details!

OVER 60 STUDENT TRAVEL GRANTS ALREADY AWARDED!

Travel grants to assist graduate students to attend GECCO to present a paper
are just now being awarded, enabling many students to participate in GECCO.
Sponsors of student travel grants this year included I2 Technologies, the
Navy Center for Applied Research in Artificial Intelligence, Third Millennium
Venture Capital, AAAI, and Philips. Employers seeking well-qualified students
in evolutionary computation will find a GOLD MINE at GECCO-2001!

                                 WORKSHOPS

Thirteen "Birds-of-a-Feather" Workshops and a Graduate Student Workshop
be presented at GECCO-2001! A book of workshop presentations will be
distributed to all GECCO registrants. The half-day workshops, all scheduled
for SATURDAY, JULY 7, include:
Coevolution: Turning Adaptative Algorithms upon Themselves
Evolutionary Algorithms for Dynamic Optimization Problems
Optimal Structural Design using Genetic and Evolutionary Computation
The Next Ten Years of Scheduling Research
Second Workshop on Memetic Algorithms (2nd WOMA)
    Computation in Gene Expression
Optimization by Building and Using Probabilistic Models (OBUPM) 2001
Evolution of sensors in nature, hardware, and simulation
    Non-Routine Design with Evolutionary Systems
Representations and Operators for Network Problems
    Real-life Evolutionary Design Optimisation
Evolutionary COmputation and Multi-Agent Systems (ECOMAS)
    Dynamics of Evolutionary Algorithms

    Graduate Student Workshop (full day)

In addition, GECCO is pleased to be the home of the two-day Fourth
International Workshop on Learning Classifier Systems, Saturday and
Sunday, July 7-8, 2001, which will bring together many of the most
noted experts in the field, and is open to interested GECCO
    registrants.

                                  TUTORIALS

Twenty-four tutorials are planned, for presentation on Sunday, July 8,
2001 (see the current list on www.isgec.org/GECCO-2001). Tutorials and
the tutorials notes book are free to all registered GECCO-2001 attendees.
The tutorials are grouped into four broad categories: Introductions to
Topics in Evolutionary Computation (EC), Advanced Topics in EC, New Directions
in EC, and Specialized Applications of EC, and will be presented by
outstanding leaders in each field.
