CALL FOR PAPERS.

II Workshop on "Advances & Trends in Artificial Intelligence for Problem Solving: ATAI"
XXI International Conference of the Chilean Computer Science Society (SCCC 2001)
Punta Arenas, CHILE, November 5-9, 2001

Search is an important aspect in many fields of computing and, in particular, for AI. Recent success in many
AI disciplines like machine learning, planning and scheduling, game playing (IBM's Deep Blue defeating
Kasparov), constraint programming and many others have been mainly due to the development of effective
search techniques for exploring huge search spaces.
Based on these successes there is considerable research effort based on the further enhancement of known
search techniques and the developement of new approaches to tackle hard problems from both academia and
practical applications. We can foresee that these developements will further boost the performance of current
search techniques and extend their applicability.

The workshop will bring together researchers of the Latinamerican and international AI community who have
active research lines on search techniques applicable to AI or strong interest in knowing about recent
developements.

Workshop topics include, but are not limited to, the following research subjects:

    - improvement of known techniques such as Evolutionary Algorithms, Tabu Search, Simulated
Annealing, Hybrid Methods, Multiagent systems, Ant Colony Optimization, Iterated Local Search,
      Swarm Intelligence, etc.
    - development of new or hybrid approaches.
    - innovative applications of the AI techniques to tackle challenging problems (real-world applications
      or theoretical).
    - enhancement of the understanding of algorithms' performance.
    - advances in traditional AI search techniques like A*, and others.

We expect to have a half-day tutorial. More information will be added as soon as it is available, so please
check for updates.

Attendance

Participants will be selected based on refereed submissions. The number of participants is limited.
All individuals interested in attending must indicate this by either submitting a paper or requesting
attendance.

Submissions

Paper submissions should be no longer than six pages, written in English, Spanish or Portuguese.
To submit a paper, email it in postcript format to the workshop chair. If this is not possible, please contact the
workshop chair.

All accepted papers will be presented at the workshop as oral presentations or as a poster.
