REMINDER

This is a reminder that the deadline for extended abstracts (which
are, however, not mandatory) to the OBUPM-2000 Workshop at GECCO-2000
is in only a week from now. The OBUPM-2000 workshop invites discussion
on general issues of research on optimization algorithms that guide
the search by building probabilistic models of promising solutions
found so far. The workshop lasts for half a day.

Participation to the workshop will be selected according to
the submitted 10-page papers. The submission of extended abstracts
is *NOT* mandatory; however, we strongly encourage the authors to
send the abstract in order for us to be able to assign appropriate
reviewers for each paper and thus improve the quality of the review
process so that the best papers are selected for presentation.

The deadline for sending us the extended abstract is February 1, 2000.
The abstract should be no longer than 1 page (formatted in some
reasonable
way) and should be sent in plain-text format to
pelikan@illigal.ge.uiuc.edu.
The deadline for submitting the papers which are to be in GECCO-2000
proceedings format and no longer than 10 pages total, is February 15,
2000.
Final camera-ready papers will be due April 20, and their length will be
assigned according to the number of accepted presentations. The workshop
has 26 total pages in the proceedings. For further information on
submission
of the abstracts and/or papers, please see the workshop homepage at
http://www-illigal.ge.uiuc.edu/obupm/

ATTENDANCE

Attendance to the workshop is open to all GECCO-2000 attendees.
GECCO-2000 is a joint meeting of the Fifth Annual Genetic Programming
Conference (GP-2000) and the International Conference on Genetic
Algorithms (ICGA-2000). The conference is administered by the Amercian
Association for Artificial Intelligence, 445 Burgess Drive, Menlo Park,
CA 94025 USA. Phone: 650-328-3123. Fax: 650-321-4457. GECCO-2000 is
operated by the International Society for Genetic Algorithms, Inc.,
a Massachusetts not-for-profit corporation and Genetic Programming,
Inc.,
a California Corporation. Last year, GECCO-99 had 619 attendees and is a
the largest and most inclusive conference in the field of genetic and
evolutionary computation. For more information on GECCO-2000, please
visit the home-page at
http://www.genetic-algorithm.org/GECCO2000/gecco2000mainpage.htm

We are looking forward to your participation at what promises to be
the biggest workshop in the area. Please, contact the organizers
(pelikan@illigal.ge.uiuc.edu) for questions or suggestions regarding
this workshop.
